Google News gets Google Plus

After many surprises, Google+ has introduced a new feature in Google news, the “+1 feature”. If a reader likes a news article he/she finds on Google news, he/she can click the +1 option. This is very much similar to the Facebook’s like feature. The article will be automatically visible in the user’s Google reader and their circles. This is in fact a smart move by Google. Meanwhile Critics ignore the fact that Google+ did not come in a day.

Many software engineers worked several hours in the making of Google+. Orkut is or was a sensational social networking site of Google. But many experts are interested in highlighting only the flaws in Google plus. Google+ has TV, music and news including a refined chat approach. Some features of Google plus has not been disclosed but they will astonish us very soon. Explore the world of Social media with the new Google plus feature.

Chat with mutual friends in Google Plus

In Twitter, a message can be sent only when both the sender and receiver follow each other. So, how good it would be if we can communicate with people whom WE JUST KNOW as a mutual friend? At the same time our personal information should not be revealed, unless we decide to be a direct friend of them. Google’s Engineers thought in the same way and we now have this new feature of Chatting with mutual friends in Google Plus.

In short this means that any one in any of your circle can chat with us, but our email addresses will be kept unknown. Cool isn’t it? Face book too has a similar feature of chatting with mutual Face book friends. But Google has gone a step further by allowing us to connect with mutual friends when we use any of these following applications. iGoogle, Orkut, Google Plus, Gmail chat and the talk client.

Can this be seen as a progressive move? Yes and No. Children and teenagers will now get a chance to talk with more friends whom they JUST KNOW. There are very high chances of this being misused. Still it’s a Yes for a professional who is looking to connect with a not so well known possible partner/potential client.

The Nine Important Gmail Changes

If you are a G-mail user you must have already noticed the design change in Gmail that has been made available from Tuesday. As of now the choice is yours but eventually this is going to become a switchover for everybody.

Let’s take a look at the nine things that are different in the new Gmail:

  1. The new Gmail allows users to change the density of their inbox by configuring the white space according to their preferences. The three options that are available include comfortable, cozy and compact.
  2. The new layout is definitely much more clean compared to the older one and this is going to help you absorb the shock of a heavy unchecked inbox better.
  3. You can now not only filter your inbox according to levels of priority, but also choose the perfect size for chat and labels according to your convenience. This feature is definitely going to make the new Gmail much more user-friendly.
  4. The new Gmail has been designed to automatically adapt to the size of any window and it can fit in accordingly.
  5. The biggest draw for the new Gmail is probably the high-definition themes. These themes definitely look a lot better than the previous versions and irrespective of the screen size they are capable of making a huge difference as far as eye-comfort is concerned.
  6. Email would no more look like “Email”. In this new Gmail, email looks more like conversation. Not only this, the people involved in the conversation can be viewed on the right side of the panel and you can also see their profile pictures and their status on Gmail (busy, available etc.)
  7. Some changes have been brought about in the photo editing applications and now you can upload and edit profile pictures of your preference easily.
  8. The search feature on Gmail is definitely better than the earlier versions. The company seems to have taken a cue from its search engine and would now prompt you with suggestions making your search experience better.
  9. The search feature also comes equipped with a search filter that allows you to search conversations and e-mails from a particular period of time, with particular words in them, without particular words in them and also based on the subject.

Still preferring one –on –one video calling to group chats?? Well …think again!

Facebook has launched a new video calling feature that is powered by Skype. All you need to use this application is a Facebook account. Tinychat, Facebook’s chatting feature is currently very popular with over a 100000 signing up on daily basis. With so many already on Facebook every video chat lover prefers this new app. This growing popularity seems likely to turn into a stiff competition for the g+ feature ‘hang out’.
But is it? Facebook’s new video chat feature isn’t yet ready to support group video chats like ‘hang outs’. As group chatting in Skype cost money many are wary of using it for video conferencing and prefer the free on- on- one video calling. But in g+ group chatting is a main feature. Up to 10 people can come together. The video stream is directed automatically to the one talking and waits till someone else talks! And it costs absolutely nothing making it perfect for group study and video conferencing.
For those who would still prefer on-on-one chatting Google plus offers its video calling feature. It’s independent from ‘hang out’. And you don’t need to go to Skype either!
But all my friends are in Facebook! And hang out requires downloading too? Well, so does Facebook. Although Facebook seems set to release a group chat feature to overcome the stiff competition there seems to be a paralleling between the two for the time being. Facebook is where all your friends are and g+ is where all the cool stuff is.
