Key strategies set by Google to keep up its market

Google has started its strategy to overcome the competitors in the social media sites. They have apparently planned to launch their own third-party net commenting platform in helping users to provide their response on various sites. Meanwhile, Google has also started promoting its application store via Google Play and links it with Google Plus. Considering this move by Google, it seems like they have not shown more interest in ad searches and searching files through the net.
Recently, a meeting was held at G-Saudi Arabia to discuss about developing Google’s social site. One such thing is to provide a new commenting platform for the Google user. Earlier, the platform will link with other Google’s online services, where users browsing anywhere can be linked to Google Plus network. They have also integrated the Android device market along with Google Play, to expose various Google’s web products available on market to its users.
Another new thing considered by Google is posting URL in Google Plus. People were not allowed to post comments and share images along with URL using Google Plus in the past, this was a mistake that Google did previously. Facebook, exploded with the help of ‘likes’ on various websites that helped to increase the number of people using Facebook as a third-party commenting platform. This provides two benefits for user – he or she doesn’t have to create a separate new profile on every site they visit and those people who are commenting can be easily identified resulting in responsible posts. Thus, Google sensitively started building social network-centric services that will improve the flow of heavy traffic from user resulting in new business opportunities.

Google+ Users increased to 90 Million and 300 Million Users by Dec 2012

Records have once again proved Google+ to be the fastest growing social networking website with advanced features. Many experts are tracking the growth of Google+ very closely and one among them is Paul Allen. He predicted the Google+ growth rates very accurately in the past. Now, he claims that Google+ has 90 million users and 625000 new users are signing up every day.

He supports his theory for the hike in Google+ users due to holidays where users could have sent greetings to their friends through Social Networks, Automatic signups to Google+ via Android 4 mobile phones, commercial ads in TV, celebrity appeal or even word of mouth advertising. Moreover, he advocates that Google+ has more number of new user signups and it has increased in the past weeks. Allen is the founder of ancestry.com, which is all about genealogy & tracking family history records, he follows a strange approach to derive his estimates about Google+. Since July, he has been tracking   thousands of queries on the surnames in Google+ and finally extrapolated the network size.

He reports that Google+ will reach 300 million users exactly on Dec 2012, 200 million users by Aug 2012 and 100 million users by Feb 2012. But his prediction fails to count the number of active users among the 62 million users and it is seen as a negative aspect. As per the Experian hitwise, those active users are just a fraction of Google+’s base. The most recent week tracking of  hitwise  found that Google+ has reached a total visitor count to 9.4 million by the ending week of dec17th and it is a nice improvement in the Google+’s  total visit compared to the weeks in November which was 7.2 million.

Google Plus Needs Better Weapons To Win The Battle With Facebook.

It is true that Google Plus started out growing faster than any other social networking website on the Internet, but going by the current trends it seems that Google Plus might not be able to beat Facebook in the long run.

So far Google Plus has only been able to make news every week by promising its users lots of fun and engagement but it seems that it is just a flash in the pan and not real talent. People who flocked to Google Plus leaving Facebook are now coming back to Facebook because of the familiar platform and comfort levels offered by Facebook. It seems that Google Plus has not been able to keep its users engaged and some people have started wondering if at all Google Plus would be able to make it in the long run.

Let us try to dig into some facts that might be attributed to the failure of Google Plus.
When Google Plus entered the social networking scenario Facebook was already enjoying the prime position and had more than 750 million active users. The two other social media sites that were a close second to Facebook were Twitter and Linkdin.

Google Plus had to be something different right from the beginning if it wanted the chunk of users to come to its kitty. It did start out well in the form of introducing a new friend system in Circles, introducing something called Sparks and the video chat Hangout… but all the efforts of Google Plus were left to bite dust when Facebook countered competition by bringing some major changes on its own website.

Facebook introduced something called Smart Lists and also went on to introduce Skype powered video chat feature. All these major changes made Facebook all the more user-friendly and the website has again regained its numero uno position.

The new Gmail application for iPhone and iPad pulled off

The launch of the new Gmail application for iPhone and iPad was well anticipated but this one turned out to be riddled with bugs; the application did not seem to function well with push notifications. Many users who had downloaded the Gmail application were very much disappointed and Google had to pull it off from the market only to relaunch it after fixing the bugs.

Most of the application was functioning properly except for the push applications but that was reason enough for Apple users to get disappointed. The application also did not seem to be capable of hosting e-mail on the user’s Apple device and also seemed to have a different interface altogether been compared to Gmail on the Safari browser.

The product manager of Gmail, Matthew Izatt in a recent blog post mentioned that everyone who has installed the application could continue to use it and Google is planning to fix the bugs and relaunch it.
There seems to be something severely wrong with Google. It is struggling with its new baby Google plus, struggling with its applications and also having a hard time convincing the users about its new interface designs. Let’s hope things turn out well for Google in the near future.

Cityville, the most popular game by Zynga is now available on Google plus

Very soon Google plus would allow its users to play Cityville – one of the most popular games by Zynga on its website.

The two companies have been partners for quite sometime now and Google is one of the investors in Zynga. This gaming platform was launched in August and one of the first titles that Zynga had was Zynga Poker.

Cityville has so far been able to draw a lot more traffic on Facebook than any other game and it is expected that after hosting this game on Google plus it would have a tremendous increase in traffic. As of now Google plus has 50 million users and Facebook has more than 800 million users.

As far as Zynga is concerned it is as if now dependent only on Facebook; by securing a place on Google plus it would surely have a lot more hits. This business tie up would definitely prove more profitable to Zynga because Facebook takes away 30% of its share of profits and Google supposedly is offering better terms.

Google plus gets 30% hike in traffic

It was definitely Facebook that made news over the last couple of weeks, but the young and experimental Google plus also seems to have made some major achievements. Google plus has been able to get 43.4 million users over the last couple of days and out of that more than 14 million users are completely fresh. Google plus has been able to achieve this feat just after launching the site to the public last week.

The numbers have been furnished by Paul Allen and they definitely have some credibility because earlier when he said that Google plus had a total of 10 million users, it was backed by Google CEO Larry page and a telephonic interview with investors two days later. Earlier this month the site only had 18 million users, but this is the first time that it experienced such massive growth.

Google plus sees a major influx in traffic after opening up to the public

Google plus was opened to the public last week and right after opening it received a whopping 15 million US visits. The site could only manage 1.1 million visits in the previous week and experienced a 13 fold gain after opening up to the public. Research suggests that there has been a 30% hike in the total number of users in just two days. Google plus now has a base of 43 million users.

Google plus decided to open the gates for the users after Facebook announced that it’s going to make several drastic changes to its website and has been able to secure the eighth position in the list of social networking websites from the 54 position the previous week. The data provided here does not include mobile data – including which might put Google plus ahead of MySpace in the list also!

Privacy Changes in Facebook

Facebook has rolled out a wave of privacy changes. It is acclaimed as one of the great privacy change in Facebook’s history. The changes are many at a time which includes changes in status update, profiles, tags and location. Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated about the privacy changes in his presentation this Tuesday.  Moreover he made a statement that Facebook will make sure that all the users go through the details of the updated version of the privacy settings. The users are given the opportunity to make their own choice with each status update.

The main features in the privacy change are given below:-

Privacy in the Profile:-

While editing the profile, Profile visibility controls appears now next to content. From the Profile editing page itself you change the settings now. There is a button to click for users to come out from the entire Facebook  Platform. This gives the users an upper hand in not dealing with application requests and spam. But surely the developers will be unhappy.

This new privacy change gives users large amount of control. The main control is that the friend’s list is now made private. So that the third party is not able to find who your friends are! If someone by chance from Google finds your Facebook Profile, now they cannot find your friends! Isn’t it amazing??

Moreover the interests in Facebook is shifted to a new system named Connections. The previous interests which were made public can now be made private.

Changes in Facebook Tags:-

In the tags also there are major changes in the privacy settings. According to the preference of the user the tag profile can now be changed. The “Everyone” option has been renamed “Public” to implicate clarity. The Lock Icon is also changed.  Depending upon whether the update is public or friend or custom, the lock icon appears as globe or friend or gear icon. With the help of the status update, which appears in the publisher box, now it is easy to find out who is being tagged. More over there is a great untagging feature. This helps the user to untag him from a particular photo, after requesting the photo’s uploader to delete it. There is no GPS restriction also. This feature helps the user to tag any location.

Since all the privacy changes are added at the Profile page level itself the users are now easily accessible to the Privacy Overhaul.

Google Plus Verification Badge

Google Plus like face book is a social network where users are able to share photos, videos, links or their location with friends. To make it sure if the person you are adding to your social circle is real Google Plus has introduced a new Badge verification unlike in face book.  The verification badge is basically a checkmark in grey color adjacent to the user’s name. Yu Wen – Ai the Google plus employee in her blog post dated August 20 said that this verification badge program is limited to only celebrities, public figures and those who have large numbers in their circles. She added that the Google team is working on expanding to all users so that they can also have their verification badges. This verification badge easily determines the real profiles which are owned not by imaginary users but by real verified people. But Yu Wen – Ai   did not give the exact procedures to obtain the verification badge.

This pinning of verification badge on the users stops impersonation and motivates the users to open the Google Plus account under their real name. In the near future this Google Plus Verification Badge will be available to all on the  Google Plus social network. This Verification Badge is like the Verified Account Badge on Twitter.

Google Plus all set to be the Leader of Social Networks

Here is a good news for  the Google plus Lovers. Google plus is all set to gobble up the Twitter bird and the Linked In User base count in an year’s time. 13% of the total U.S adult population have already signed in for Google Plus and it is expected to reach 22% very soon. This was the result of a poll conducted by Bloom berg and You Gov poll among 1003 adults in the last week of July and the first week of August.

Face Book which might face a cat on the wall situation has a huge user base (71% of U.S adults), but that number might come down in an year’s time. There are mixed responses from Face book and Google plus users with the former section planing to cut down their time spent on FB and the later section becoming inactive or passive users in Google plus.

The Twitter bird can be happy about the poll results which gave it a projected growth rate of 3% over the next one year. Google plus now needs to worry a lot about the Inactive users and should find a way or two to bring them in the repeat/active visitor base.
